The PCAF web-based emission factor database, created by Guidehouse Netherlands B.V. on behalf of PCAF, contains a database with emission factors that Financial Institutions (FIs) can use to calculate the carbon footprint of their portfolio – also known as ‘financed emissions’. Major objective of this database is to provide PCAF participants with a large set of publicly available emission factors enabling them to perform an initial assessment of the financed emissions of their lending and investment activities across geographies and sectors for the most relevant asset classes.
The database is fully open-source and owned by all PCAF participants. The database is currently only accessible for PCAF participants and has the following key features:
- available for free,
- web-based, providing downloadable files with emissions factors,
- based on publicly available sources
- aiming to cover as many asset classes, geographies, & sectors as possible
- editable and extendable by users (i.e. peer-to-peer database).
